Yaxel Lendeborg Posts 31 Points and 12 Rebounds as the Warriors Win for the First Time: Why the Rookie Is a Must-Roster

Yaxel Lendeborg delivered the breakout game that fantasy managers were waiting for. The Golden State Warriors rookie scored 31 points with 12 rebounds and six assists on Monday night in Denver, and the Warriors beat the Nuggets 134-114 for their first win of the season after an 0-3 start. Lendeborg became just the third rookie in franchise history with at least 31 points, 12 rebounds and six assists in a game, joining Rick Barry and Wilt Chamberlain, according to NBC Sports Bay Area. If he is still on a waiver wire in your league, that ends today.

The line, and how he got there

Lendeborg shot 9-of-19 from the field and only 1-of-8 from three, which makes the 31 points more impressive rather than less. He got to the line relentlessly, converting 12 of his 13 free throws by one account, and he was a factor on the glass and as a passer throughout. Stephen Curry praised him afterward as a complete player, the kind of public endorsement from the franchise's centerpiece that usually precedes a bigger role, not a smaller one.

This was not a one-off. Lendeborg had already posted 26 points, nine rebounds and five assists against Phoenix in Golden State's previous loss. He started on opening night against the Lakers, making him only the second rookie starter of the Steve Kerr era, and he has stayed in the lineup through four different starting groups in four games.

Why his role is secure

Golden State's injury list explains part of the opportunity. Jimmy Butler is out after right ACL surgery, Moses Moody is recovering from a left patellar tendon repair, and Kristaps Porzingis has also been unavailable. That leaves a frontcourt and wing rotation thin on reliable size and secondary creation, and Lendeborg is filling both needs.

What makes him different from a typical injury fill-in is how the Warriors are using him. Coverage of his first week has noted that he is handling more pick-and-roll possessions than expected, working as a ball-handler rather than only as a screener or spot-up option. That kind of usage is sticky. Coaches do not take on-ball reps away from rookies who are producing, and Lendeborg is producing.

The fantasy profile

Lendeborg's stat set is unusually broad for a rookie forward. Points, rebounds and assists are all real, and his free-throw volume is a quiet edge in category leagues. His weakness is clear: 1-of-8 from three is a reminder that the outside shot is not reliable yet, and managers in category formats should expect him to be a neutral to slight negative in threes until that improves.

In points leagues: He is a must-start. Production across three categories plus volume at the line plays perfectly in scoring formats, and his minutes appear safe given the roster situation.

In category leagues: He is a strong add who helps in points, rebounds, assists and free throws. Pair him with a high-volume three-point shooter to offset the one weak category.

In dynasty: His value just jumped. A rookie with this kind of usage in a winning-culture organization is the kind of asset that becomes difficult to acquire in a year.

What it means for the rest of the Warriors

Lendeborg's emergence consolidates Golden State's secondary creation. With Curry as the primary engine, the second ball-handler role has been the variable all season, and Lendeborg now has a firm grip on it. That trims some upside from Brandin Podziemski, whose fantasy value depends on assist and usage share that Lendeborg is now absorbing. Draymond Green's role as the defensive anchor and connector is unchanged.

When Butler eventually returns, the question becomes whether Lendeborg's minutes hold. The early signs suggest he has earned a long-term role regardless, but managers should watch Butler's timeline as the biggest future threat to his workload.

The rebounding is the tell

The 12 rebounds deserve their own note. Rookie forwards who score tend to be streaky, because their points depend on shooting variance. Rebounds are more stable from game to game, and a forward who crashes the glass and gets to the free-throw line has two sources of production that do not rely on his jumper falling. That combination is why Lendeborg's floor looks higher than most rookies' even on nights when his three-point shot is off, as it was Monday.

The Denver side

The Nuggets gave up 134 points at home, a rare result for a team built around Nikola Jokic's control of tempo. Denver's early-season injuries, including Cam Johnson's sprained ankle from the opener, have thinned the rotation. Jokic and Jamal Murray remain locked-in starts; the bench pieces remain matchup plays until the rotation settles.

The Verdexed angle

Rookies with expanding on-ball roles are among the most mispriced assets early in an NBA season, because season-long rankings are set before anyone knows how coaches will use them. Lendeborg's usage now looks closer to a starter-level creator than to a rookie role player, and that is the kind of shift that should also show up in daily fantasy pricing before salaries catch up. Verdexed's game-level view for the Warriors' next outing will be in the daily NBA picks post (for example, today's board is at /blog/nba-picks-2026-10-27) and on the NBA predictions page.

What to do in your league

Add Lendeborg everywhere he is available, and start him in points leagues immediately. In category leagues, use him as a three-category contributor and plan around his three-point shooting. In DFS, target him while his salary still reflects his pre-season expectations. And watch the injury report: until Butler and Moody return, Lendeborg's role is as safe as any rookie's in the league.
