The NBA Cup group stage opened on Friday with a slate full of fantasy-relevant box scores. Jamal Murray scored 39 and Christian Braun added a career-high 31 as Denver beat Phoenix 127-120, with each guard making seven threes. Scottie Barnes poured in a career-high 41 in a loss to Orlando, where Desmond Bane and Franz Wagner both set season highs. Payton Pritchard scored 30 in Boston's 125-111 win over Chicago, and Detroit improved to 5-1 behind Cade Cunningham.

Some of these lines are one-night spikes. Others point to role changes worth acting on. Here is how to sort them.

Nuggets 127, Suns 120: Braun's breakout and a Murray heater

Murray and Braun combined for 70 points and went 14-of-18 from three, and it was the first time two Nuggets had made seven threes each in the same game. Nikola Jokic added 18 points and 10 assists, and all five Denver starters reached double figures. On the Phoenix side, Miles Bridges led with 24, Devin Booker scored 20 on his 30th birthday and Collin Gillespie had 16 points and 10 assists off the bench. Dillon Brooks scored 22 before being ejected in the third quarter for a flagrant 2 foul after kicking Murray on a jump shot.

Christian Braun: the shooting will regress, but the role will not. Braun is a starter on a team built around Jokic's passing, which means open looks every night. He is worth a pickup in standard leagues if he is available, with the expectation of steady scoring, rebounds and efficiency rather than 30-point nights.

Jamal Murray: this was his second big scoring night in a week, after a 42-point game last weekend in a comeback win. He is a locked-in starter, and his three-point volume makes him a strong category contributor.

Collin Gillespie: a 10-assist game off the bench is a sign of a real role. He is a deep-league streamer for assists, especially if Phoenix's guard rotation stays thin.

Magic 121, Raptors 114: Barnes carries Toronto

With Kawhi Leonard sidelined by left knee swelling, Barnes took over: 41 points on 19-of-34 shooting before fouling out. Orlando had too many answers, with Bane scoring a season-best 28, Wagner posting season highs of 26 points and 11 assists, Wendell Carter Jr. adding 20 and Anthony Black recording 17 points and 10 assists. For Toronto, Immanuel Quickley scored 17 and Jakob Poeltl had a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double.

Scottie Barnes: this is the usage spike we expected when Leonard's three-to-four-week absence was announced. Barnes was already a high-end fantasy forward, and he now profiles as a top-tier option until Leonard returns. One caution: he went just 1-of-2 from three and 2-of-3 from the line, so the scoring came almost entirely from inside. That is sustainable, but it limits his category value in threes.

Franz Wagner and Anthony Black: with Paolo Banchero out four to six weeks, Orlando's playmaking load has shifted. Wagner's 11 assists and Black's 10 confirm that both are being used as primary ball-handlers. Wagner is a must-start; Black is a strong pickup in standard leagues for assists and defensive stats.

Desmond Bane: a season-high 28 is a reminder of his scoring ceiling. He is a weekly starter and a strong buy if a manager in your league is down on his early-season shooting.

Celtics 125, Bulls 111: Pritchard's role keeps growing

Pritchard scored 30 on 9-of-17 shooting with three rebounds, three assists and two steals, and Jayson Tatum added 26 in 34 minutes. Paul George had 18 points and eight assists. Boston has won four straight and scored 56 points in the paint.

Payton Pritchard: the extension he signed this month looks well-earned. He is a weekly starter in points leagues and a strong category contributor in threes. His role is steady enough to hold through the occasional quiet night.

Chicago: the Bulls' turnover problems were the story of their loss. For fantasy, their guards carry turnover risk in category formats until that changes.

Pistons 110, Nets 94: Detroit keeps rolling

Cade Cunningham scored 20, Duncan Robinson added 17, and Detroit moved to 5-1. Cunningham remains an elite fantasy guard. Robinson is a streaming option for three-pointers, with the usual caveat that his value is tied almost entirely to his shooting.

The betting angle

NBA Cup group games count in the standings and carry tiebreaker implications based on point differential, which can change late-game behavior. Teams protecting margin are less likely to rest starters in garbage time, and that can push totals and player props higher than a normal regular-season game. Keep that in mind when betting overs on Cup nights. For the model's daily view, see the NBA picks at /blog/nba-picks-2026-10-31 and the live board at /nba/predictions.

What to do this weekend

Add: Christian Braun and Anthony Black in standard leagues, Collin Gillespie in deeper formats.

Start with confidence: Scottie Barnes, Franz Wagner and Payton Pritchard every night while their teams are short-handed or their roles hold.

Do not chase: the three-point totals. Fourteen-of-18 from two players is a single-night outlier; the roles behind those numbers are what matter.
