Cowboys at Eagles Monday Night Preview: Saquon Barkley Is Questionable and Makai Lemon Leads a Thin Receiver Room for Tanner McKee

Week 7 closes Monday night at Lincoln Financial Field, where the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles meet with both teams at 2-4. Philadelphia will play without wide receivers DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and Dontayvion Wicks (ankle), who were ruled out on Saturday's final injury report, and Saquon Barkley is questionable with a hamstring injury after missing the last two games. Tanner McKee makes another start at quarterback with Jalen Hurts out for the season. Dallas is favored on the road by around 4.5 points in most markets, with a total in the 43.5 to 44.5 range.

For fantasy managers, this is the last game of the week, which makes it a final-decision game for anyone with Barkley, Eagles receivers or Dallas pass catchers in a lineup.

The injury report

Philadelphia's report is long. The headline is Barkley, who was limited Thursday and Friday before logging a full practice Saturday, according to NFL.com. That trajectory points toward playing, but a questionable designation means he can still sit, and there is no confirmation of how large a workload he would carry if active.

The table below lists the notable statuses for both teams.

Dallas also cleared George Pickens from a shoulder issue, according to local reports, and CeeDee Lamb is past the thigh problem that bothered him earlier this season. The Cowboys will be without linebacker Dee Winters.

The Philadelphia passing game

With Smith and Wicks out, rookie first-round pick Makai Lemon is the top healthy receiver. That makes him a fascinating DFS and late-swap play: Philadelphia has to throw to someone, and Lemon will draw the most snaps among the wideouts. He is a speculative flex in season-long leagues and a better tournament play than cash-game option.

Goedert may end up the safest Eagles target. He is available despite the knee issue that cost him two games earlier this season, and tight ends often absorb volume when a team's top receivers are out. He is a TE1 start in this spot.

McKee is the uncertainty. He takes over an offense that has lost four straight, and a receiver room this thin limits his ceiling. He is not a streaming option outside of superflex leagues.

Barkley's decision

If Barkley plays, he should be started in most formats, because his talent and the likely game script (Philadelphia leaning on the run to protect a backup quarterback) both point toward volume. The risk is a limited snap count in his first game back. Managers with a safer alternative and a deep bench may prefer to wait one more week. Managers without one should start him if he is active.

If Barkley is out, Philadelphia's backfield becomes a committee with little fantasy appeal.

The Dallas side

Dak Prescott leads a Cowboys offense that gets healthier on Monday, with Pickens cleared and Lamb back to full strength. Philadelphia has lost four straight and is dealing with injuries on defense as well, with Nolan Smith out and several defenders, including Jonathan Greenard and Jalyx Hunt, listed as questionable.

Lamb is a WR1 start, and Pickens is a strong WR2. Prescott is a solid QB1 in a game where Dallas is expected to lead.

The bigger picture

Both teams entered the season with playoff expectations, and the loser of this game falls to 2-5 with the season approaching its midpoint. Philadelphia has lost four straight, and this is an important test of whether McKee can stabilize the offense. The Eagles visit the first-place Giants on Nov. 8, so a loss here would leave them chasing New York by a wide margin.

For Dallas, the returns of Overshown and Durant give a defense that has struggled some needed depth. Overshown is expected to be on a pitch count, so his snaps will be limited, but his presence alone helps a linebacker group without Winters. The Cowboys' fantasy outlook depends less on the defense than on whether Prescott can keep finding Lamb and Pickens against a Philadelphia secondary with its own injury questions.

The betting angle

Dallas opened as a road favorite of around 5.5 points before the line moved toward Philadelphia, according to early market reports, and most books now sit at 4.5. That movement likely reflects Barkley's improving status. If he is active, the Eagles' best path to covering is a ball-control game that shortens the contest, which also supports the under on a total already in the mid-40s.

If Barkley is ruled out, that path narrows considerably. The model's view of this game appears in the Week 7 picks piece at /blog/nfl-week-7-picks-2026 and on the NFL predictions page.

What to do in your league

Start: Lamb, Pickens, Prescott and Goedert.

Start if active: Barkley, with the understanding that his workload may be managed.

Speculative play: Lemon, in DFS tournaments and as a deep-league flex. A strong game will make him the top receiver claim of the week.

Avoid: McKee outside superflex formats.

Late swap: Check Barkley's status about 90 minutes before the 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff, when inactives are announced, and have a pivot ready.
