The Dallas Cowboys visit Lambeau Field for Sunday Night Football on Oct. 18 (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC and Peacock), and the betting market has priced the game as close to a coin flip with plenty of points. Green Bay (3-2) is roughly a 1.5-point favorite over Dallas (2-3), and the total sits at 52.5 at most books after opening around 53.5 earlier in the week. For fantasy managers, that number is the headline: few games on the Week 6 board project for this much scoring, and both offenses carry real start-worthy pieces.

The injury report adds a layer. CeeDee Lamb (thigh) carries no game designation for Dallas, so the Cowboys' top receiver plays. Green Bay, meanwhile, has ruled out four players, including defensive tackle Javon Hargrave (Achilles) and cornerback Benjamin St-Juste (hamstring), and listed five more as questionable. Micah Parsons, as covered earlier this week, will not face his former team.

The betting picture

The line has barely moved off its opener, but the direction is telling. Circa moved the game from a pick'em to Green Bay -1 early in the week, and most books now sit at Packers -1.5. The total has gone the other way, dipping a full point from 53.5 to 52.5.

A small dip in a big total usually reflects defensive personnel news more than a fundamental change in how the game will be played. Here, the Packers' thin defensive interior is a reason to lean toward points, not away from them, so the downward move is mild value for over bettors who were waiting.

Javonte Williams is the matchup play

The cleanest fantasy edge on the board belongs to Dallas running back Javonte Williams. Green Bay has allowed the third-most fantasy points per game to running backs this season, per matchup data cited in Sharp Football Analysis' Week 6 worksheet, and the absence of Hargrave weakens the middle of that front even further.

Williams has not been efficient. He is averaging roughly 3.7 yards per carry with 276 rushing yards through five games, and his season high is 98 rushing yards. But fantasy points for running backs track volume and touchdown chances more than yards per carry, and a 52.5 total in a one-score spread is exactly the game script that keeps a lead back on the field for four quarters. Treat Williams as a solid RB2 with RB1 upside this week, and lean toward him in DFS where his salary still reflects the slow start.

Jordan Love and the Green Bay passing game

On the other side, Dallas has struggled to get off the field. Opponents have converted a league-high 52.6% of third downs (30 of 57) against the Cowboys, and Dallas is coming off a 24-16 home loss to a Tampa Bay team that had been winless. Long drives against a defense that cannot finish them translate into more plays, more red-zone trips and more touchdown chances for Jordan Love.

Love is a confident QB1 start. The bigger fantasy question is distribution. Green Bay rotates its receivers more than most teams, and Skyy Moore (ankle) is out, while Savion Williams (ankle) is questionable and would need to be activated from injured reserve to play. Fewer healthy bodies mean a tighter target tree for whoever is active on Sunday night, which nudges the Packers' top two receivers up a tier. Check the inactive list about 90 minutes before kickoff before locking in a third Green Bay pass catcher.

The Dallas defense is a mess on paper

Dallas has ruled out cornerback Cobie Durant and offensive lineman Drew Shelton, both with hamstring injuries, and listed linebacker DeMarvion Overshown (hamstring), cornerback Joey Porter Jr. (ankle), cornerback Ameer Speed (knee) and defensive lineman L.T. Overton (foot) as questionable. Local reporting has described Overshown as a long shot.

Three cornerbacks on the injury report against a quarterback playing as well as Love is the kind of mismatch that sets up a passing-game stack. If Porter is limited or inactive, the Cowboys could be playing depth corners on the outside in prime time. That is a strong environment for Green Bay's receivers and a reason to like Love-based stacks on a short Sunday night or Monday showdown slate.

The Green Bay defensive injuries matter too

The Packers' list is long enough to cut the other way. Beyond Hargrave and St-Juste, Jonathan Ford (calf) is out, Jordon Riley (Achilles) is doubtful, and defensive contributors Brandon Cisse (hip), Anthony Campbell (ankle) and Jacob Monk (quad) are questionable. Guard Aaron Banks (knee, toe) is also questionable on the offensive side.

The net effect for fantasy: both defenses are compromised, which is why the total is where it is. Lamb should see a full workload against a secondary that is down a corner, and he remains a must-start WR1 in all formats. Dak Prescott is a QB1 play in a game environment built for passing volume on both sides, especially with Lamb cleared.

Fantasy fallout and what to do

Start with confidence: Jordan Love, Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Javonte Williams. All four sit in a game with a top-tier total and an injury report that weakens the opposing defense.

Lean in: Green Bay's top two receivers once the inactive list confirms who is active. The Packers' receiver rotation is the key variable, and a thinner group is good news for whoever plays.

Be careful with: secondary Packers pass catchers who depend on rotation snaps, and any defensive streamer from either team. In a game priced near 52.5 with both secondaries banged up, neither defense projects as a fantasy start.

The Verdexed angle

Prime-time games with a short spread and a high total are where game script matters least and talent matters most, so the stars on both sides should be in lineups. For how the Verdexed model sees the side and the total, check the Week 6 picks page at /blog/nfl-week-6-picks-2026 and the live board at /nfl/predictions, which update as the inactives and late line moves arrive.

The bottom line: this is a game to have exposure to, not one to avoid. Start the quarterbacks, start Lamb and Williams, and wait on the final Packers inactive list before deciding on the third receiver.
