Thursday's baseball is a five-game getaway slate that opens at 12:15 p.m. ET in Atlanta, and the pitching matchup carrying the most weight is in Seattle, where Jacob deGrom and Logan Gilbert are the projected starters for the Texas Rangers and the Mariners. This column exists to set Verdexed's model probability beside the market's price, strip the sportsbook's margin out of that price, and report the gap. Thursday extends the run of days when that has not been possible. The verdexed.com prediction, edge, and accuracy pages are blocked from this publishing environment, and per-game win probabilities, confidence tiers, and edge figures were not retrievable through search either. There is no biggest edge to name today, and no probability below is attributed to the model. What follows is a matchup and market read, labeled as such throughout, published as model-desk information and entertainment rather than betting advice, for readers of legal betting age located where sports wagering is legal.

How to read this

A normal edition carries two numbers per game. The first is Verdexed's model probability, built point-in-time from information that existed before first pitch, drawing on more than a dozen weighted features: recent form, team strength, home-field advantage, rest, and, in baseball, the starting pitcher and the bullpen behind him. Per the published methodology, the headline probability blends that model output with the de-vigged probability implied by current moneylines, because the blend calibrates better than either input alone. The edge is computed from the model's independent opinion, since measuring a market-blended number against the market would be circular. Both of today's per-game inputs are missing. Verdexed logs every prediction before the game starts and scores it afterward on win accuracy and Brier score, where lower is better. Trailing 30-day accuracy and Brier figures were not retrievable at publication, so no hit rate is cited here and none should be inferred. The calibration standard is worth restating anyway: the model fits a calibration curve on held-out games so that a 65 percent side is meant to be a real 65 percent, which means it loses roughly one time in three.

The model's top edges today

There are none to publish. An edge requires a model probability and a market probability observed at the same moment, and only the market half was available Thursday. A slate with genuinely thin edges and one whose edges could not be read are different findings, and this is the second kind. Nothing below is a pick or a rated play.

Thursday's board, matchup side only

**Rangers at Mariners, 4:10 p.m. ET, T-Mobile Park.** The projected matchup is the day's best on paper. Texas is expected to hand the ball to Jacob deGrom, listed at 10-9 with a 3.96 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and 174 strikeouts across 143.1 innings. Seattle counters with Logan Gilbert, listed at 11-9 with a 3.71 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and 176 strikeouts over 165 innings. Nearly identical strikeout volume and sub-1.15 WHIPs is the profile that usually produces a tight number, and the market agrees: one book had Seattle near minus 130 with Texas around plus 110 and a total of 8.5. That price is the comparison point a model number would be measured against, and today there is none to measure.

**Astros at Phillies, 1:05 p.m. ET, Citizens Bank Park.** Philadelphia's projected starter is Zack Wheeler, listed at 12-5 with a 3.23 ERA and 163 strikeouts. Houston is expected to counter with Cristian Javier, listed at 2-5 with a 5.98 ERA and 50 strikeouts, a line reflecting a pitcher working back into a rotation role rather than a full season of it. The market made Philadelphia roughly a minus 172 favorite with Houston near plus 144.

**Rockies at Yankees, 7:05 p.m. ET, Yankee Stadium.** New York's projected starter is left-hander Max Fried, credited with a 2.73 ERA across 17 starts. Colorado is expected to counter with right-hander Ryan Feltner, listed at a 5.91 ERA over 22 appearances that include 21 starts. The Yankees were quoted near minus 334 with the Rockies around plus 270, the widest price on the board. Heavy favorites are where market and model prices most often converge.

**Rays at Braves, 12:15 p.m. ET, Truist Park.** The projected matchup is Tampa Bay's Nick Martinez, listed at 14-4 with a 3.04 ERA and 95 strikeouts, against Atlanta's Martin Perez, listed at 8-9 with a 3.25 ERA and 94 strikeouts. The earned run averages are close enough that the win-loss records describe run support rather than pitching quality, the kind of surface split a model should see through.

**Pirates at White Sox, 7:40 p.m. ET, Rate Field.** Pittsburgh's projected starter is Jared Jones, listed at 3-6 with a 4.46 ERA and 92 strikeouts. The White Sox side was still listed as to be announced, so no name is attached here and no market read is offered.

What could go wrong

Start with the starters. Every arm named above is a listed or projected probable rather than a confirmed one, and a late scratch changes the shape of a baseball game more than any other single event. September compounds the problem. Rosters are expanded, so a manager has more relievers to reach for and less reason to push a starter through a third time around the order. Contending clubs also manage innings on arms they need in October, a live consideration for deGrom given the workload history behind his 143.1 innings. Getaway day adds a wrinkle, since a club flying out after a day game may rest regulars. Totals carry their own exposure, because the afternoon games are outdoors and weather moves a run line more than most bettors price in.

The largest caveat is the one at the top. Without model probabilities there is no measured disagreement with the market, so nothing here has been tested against a price. Read it as context on the day's baseball, not as a rated card.

Responsible play

**This is model output, not betting advice.** Verdexed publishes its model's probabilities and edges for informational and entertainment purposes only. Nothing here is a recommendation to place a wager, and no outcome is guaranteed, even the model's highest-confidence picks lose regularly.

**You must be of legal betting age in your jurisdiction** and located where sports wagering is legal to bet. Sports betting is not available everywhere; know and follow the laws where you are. Never bet more than you can afford to lose, and never chase losses.
