NFL Today's Best Bets (September 20): No Model Board for a 14-Game Week 2 Sunday
By Verdexed Analytics

Week 2 of the NFL season fills out Sunday with a 14-game card, and this column exists to set Verdexed's own win probability beside the market's price and report the distance between them. Sunday it cannot. The verdexed.com prediction, edge, and accuracy pages are blocked from this publishing environment, and per-game win probabilities, confidence tiers, and edge figures were not retrievable through search either. Verdexed moved its per-game predictions behind a subscription after July 31, which is the likely reason the numbers no longer surface publicly. So there is no biggest edge to name today, and no probability below belongs to the model. What follows is a matchup and market read of the games that carry the most information, published as model output and entertainment rather than betting advice, for readers 21 and older located where sports wagering is legal. The market's own headline is Sunday Night Football, where Kansas City is laying 6.5 points to Indianapolis with a total of 46.
How to read this
A normal edition of this column carries two numbers per game. The first is Verdexed's model probability, built from a weighted feature set per matchup (recent form, team strength and scoring differential, home-field advantage, head-to-head history, rest, and the quarterback in the NFL) resolved through simulation. The second is the market's implied probability, taken from the current moneyline with the sportsbook's margin stripped out. The edge is the gap between the two, and it means something only when the model half is formed independently of the market half. Sunday only the market half was readable. Verdexed logs every prediction before kickoff and scores it afterward on win accuracy and on Brier score, where lower is better, but the trailing thirty-day figures were not retrievable at publication, so no hit rate is cited here and none should be inferred. Every number printed below is a sportsbook number, confirmed through search, and a price is not a forecast. No edge is claimed today, and no edge is a guarantee on the days one is.
The model's top edges today
None are claimed. With the model board unreadable, naming an edge would mean inventing one, and a thin publication is the honest version of a day like this. The games below are ordered by what the market says, not by what Verdexed projects.
The market's board, prices only
**Colts at Chiefs, Sunday night.** Kansas City is a 6.5-point home favorite with the total at 46, priced at minus 300 on the moneyline against plus 250 for Indianapolis. Those two prices imply roughly 75 percent and 29 percent respectively, and because they sum past 100 the book's margin is about three and a half points; removing it leaves Kansas City near 72 percent. That is the market's opinion, not the model's. Indianapolis is reported to be without receiver Michael Pittman, which is the kind of absence a full-strength model number would already have absorbed.
**Dolphins at 49ers, Levi's Stadium.** San Francisco is a 13-point home favorite with the total at 45.5, the largest spread on the board. Double-digit NFL favorites are where market and model most often disagree, because a price that steep prices in very little chance of an ordinary bad afternoon. Without the model number there is no way to say which side of 13 Verdexed would sit on.
**Bengals at Texans, 1 p.m. ET.** Houston is a short favorite at minus 2.5. Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow dealt with back tightness and was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday, then returned as a full participant Friday, with coach Zac Taylor confirming he will play. Houston's receiving room is the thinner story: Nico Collins has been ruled out with a hamstring strain, and Tee Higgins, who is a Bengal rather than a Texan, was lost for the season to a torn ACL in camp. A near pick-em line on a game missing one team's primary target is exactly the spot where an independent probability would be worth reading, and today there is not one.
**Jaguars at Broncos.** Denver is favored by 2.5 at home with the total at 44.5, the tightest of the games listed here.
**Titans at Eagles.** Philadelphia is laying 7 with a total of 39.5, the lowest total on the Week 2 board. Reports have receiver A.J. Brown headed to injured reserve, which is consistent with a total that low.
**Vikings at Bears, Soldier Field.** Chicago is a 5.5-point home favorite. Elsewhere, Dallas is laying 4.5 against Washington.
What could go wrong
The largest risk today is the one stated at the top: with no model probability to compare against, nothing here is an independent opinion, only a description of prices other people set. Beyond that, Sunday inactives are published roughly ninety minutes before kickoff and can move a line after this publishes. Several statuses were still unresolved at writing, including Puka Nacua listed as questionable with a hip issue and Brock Bowers listed as doubtful with a knee issue, while Kyler Murray has been ruled out with a concussion. Questionable is not out, and doubtful is not out, and a late downgrade at quarterback or at a primary receiver is the single fastest way for a Week 2 number to become stale. Week 2 also carries the smallest useful sample of the season: one game of results is thin evidence for any team, and models and markets alike are still leaning heavily on preseason priors.
Responsible play
**This is model output, not betting advice.** Verdexed publishes its model's probabilities and edges for informational and entertainment purposes only. Nothing here is a recommendation to place a wager, and no outcome is guaranteed, even the model's highest-confidence picks lose regularly.
