Yesterday's picks: how the model did (September 21)
By Verdexed Analytics

Verdexed's graded line for Monday, September 21, is zero picks, zero correct, zero incorrect. Four games were played across the two leagues this desk had in front of it, one in the NFL and three in baseball, and none was scored here, because the model's per-game probabilities were not published. By this column's own running count, that is the forty-sixth consecutive slate opening with the same number. The prices the picks columns quoted alongside those games went 3-0 straight up, which is a fact about the market and not a result the model earned.
The scorecard
Picks made: zero. Correct: zero. Incorrect: zero. Accuracy on the day is undefined, because the denominator is zero.
Both of Monday's best bets columns said so at the top: no model number was retrievable for Giants at Rams or for the three-game baseball board, and no edge was claimed on either. Neither contains anything that can be graded as a pick.
No accuracy percentage and no Brier score is cited here. The verdexed.com prediction, edge and accuracy pages remain unreachable from the network this column publishes behind, and a public search returns the methodology page, which describes logging every prediction and scoring it on win accuracy and Brier score, rather than the ledger underneath it. A description of a process is not a number. The 65 percent and 70 percent confidence tiers went unpopulated for a forty-sixth straight day.
The hand-kept ledger of stated sides holds at 13-10 across 23 decisions, unchanged.
What can be graded is the market half. Three of Monday's four games carried a clear favorite, and all three won. The fourth, in Baltimore, was priced as a coin flip. Totals went under in three of the four.
Best call / worst miss
Nothing was picked, so there is no sharpest call and no worst miss belonging to the model. What follows grades the quoted prices instead.
**The price that held best, by a distance.** Los Angeles was quoted in the 6.5 to 7 point range with a moneyline near minus 313, roughly 76 percent before the book's margin is stripped out, and the column noted the number had moved toward the road underdog all week on Puka Nacua's availability. Result at SoFi Stadium: **Rams 28, Giants 6**. Matthew Stafford threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns, Davante Adams caught eight passes for 195 yards and two of them, and New York lost quarterback Jaxson Dart to a knee injury on the opening drive, with Jameis Winston finishing the night. The week's line movement pointed the wrong way, and the total of 47.5 landed well under at 34.
**The worst read: two projected starters, both wrong, in the same game.** The MLB column listed Bailey Ober and Landen Roupp as the probable starters for Twins at Giants and flagged both as reported rather than confirmed. Neither pitched. Zebby Matthews started for Minnesota and Blade Tidwell for San Francisco, and Tidwell left in the fourth with elbow discomfort after Brooks Lee homered. Result: **Giants 5, Twins 2**, on Drew Gilbert's home run and two-run single. San Francisco was quoted near minus 128 and the price held, which on a night when the listed starter was wrong on both sides is luck rather than accuracy.
**The widest price on the board landed hardest.** Detroit was quoted near minus 155, and the column argued any model's number here deserved less weight than usual, because both listed starters had almost no recent major league sample. Result: **Tigers 9, Nationals 2**, with three Detroit home runs. River Ryan, acquired in the Tarik Skubal trade, threw three scoreless innings in his Detroit debut, and DJ Herz, making his first major league appearance in nearly two years, allowed four runs over four innings. The total of 8.5 went over. Identifying the game a model would handle poorly is not a substitute for having a number on it.
**The coin flip broke to the home side.** Toronto at Baltimore was the only game on the baseball board that touched the postseason, and the market could not separate the teams. Result: **Orioles 4, Blue Jays 3**. Toronto scored three in the first and did not score again, Shane Baz settled in for 6 2/3 innings, and Gunnar Henderson homered in the sixth. The Blue Jays fell three and a half games behind Chicago for the last American League wild card with a week to play.
What it means
Three quoted favorites winning on a four-game Monday is a small sample of other people's opinions. Reporting it as a good day would be the exact dishonesty this page exists to avoid. The result that belongs on the model's record is the zero.
The durable read has not moved in six weeks. The ledger this column keeps has been frozen since per-game predictions went behind a subscription at the end of July, and a hand-kept 13-10 across 23 stated sides is the only figure here that was ever graded. At that sample the distance between 13-10 and 10-13 is a few coin flips. Forty-six consecutive slates without a graded pick is a publishing failure rather than a modeling result.

**This is a record of past model output, not betting advice.** Verdexed grades its model in public for transparency and entertainment.
