MLB Today's Best Bets (September 26): No Model Board on the Final Saturday

Major League Baseball plays the second-to-last day of its 2026 regular season on Saturday, September 26, with the American League West still unsettled, the last National League wild card still live, and a nor'easter already having rewritten the schedule. The number this column exists to publish is again missing: Verdexed's per-game win probabilities, confidence tiers, and edge figures were not retrievable at publication, because verdexed.com is blocked from this publishing environment and the prediction, edge board, and accuracy pages did not surface through search. There is no biggest edge to name today, and no probability below belongs to Verdexed's model. What follows is a stakes and market read, published as information and entertainment rather than betting advice, for readers of legal betting age located where sports wagering is legal.

How to read this

A normal edition carries two numbers per game: Verdexed's model probability and the market's implied probability with the book's margin stripped out, reported as the gap between them. Verdexed's methodology page, which was retrievable today even though the game pages were not, describes models fit on point-in-time data to avoid lookahead leakage, blended with the de-vigged probability implied by current moneylines, then passed through a calibration curve fit on held-out games so that a stated 65 percent behaves like a real 65 percent over a large sample. That page also states every prediction is logged before first pitch and scored afterward, with win accuracy and Brier score (lower is better) reported publicly. Those trailing figures were not retrievable today, so no hit rate is cited here and none should be inferred. Every price below is a sportsbook number surfaced through search, and a price is a consensus opinion rather than a forecast. No edge is claimed today, and on the days one is, it is still not a guarantee.

The model's top edges today

None are claimed. An invented probability here would defeat the purpose of the section. The games below are listed for their stakes and their prices, with every starter described as projected rather than confirmed, a caveat that is heavier than usual on the final weekend.

Saturday's board, market side only

**Astros at Athletics, Sutter Health Park, Sacramento.** The consequential game on the board. Houston was reported at 78-80 entering Friday and at 79-80 for Saturday after a reported 7-5 win over the Athletics. Houston's path is reported to be simple and narrow at once: win the division, because a second postseason team is not coming out of it. Houston also holds the head-to-head tiebreaker, reported to have won the season series against Texas nine games to four. Jack Perkins, listed at 3-12 with a 5.90 ERA, is the Athletics' announced probable. Houston's starter was listed as to be determined on one source and reported as Hunter Brown on another, so treat that as projected. Houston has been quoted between minus 174 and minus 185, roughly what a contender against a 63-win club normally costs.

**Rangers at Twins, Target Field.** Texas was also reported at 79-80, which is the entire story of this division: two clubs at or below .500, separated by half a game at most, with sources disagreeing on which one technically leads. Bailey Ober, listed at 7-6 with a 4.21 ERA, is Minnesota's announced probable; Texas had its starter listed as to be determined. The price is close to a coin flip, Texas quoted between minus 110 and minus 118, the market saying it has no strong opinion on a game with a division hanging off it.

**Rays at Phillies, Citizens Bank Park.** Philadelphia has been reported as the club in position to take the final National League wild card as Arizona fades, with a reported clinch path involving a Philadelphia win paired with a Diamondbacks loss. Reported start times differed across sources, listed at both 6:05 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. ET, so check the card. Neither starter was confirmable. Tampa Bay has been reported to have locked the top American League seed, which is the reason to read the lineup before the price.

**Reds at Blue Jays, Rogers Centre.** Toronto has been quoted near minus 158, Cincinnati near plus 134, with a total posted at 8.5 runs. Neither starter was confirmable.

**Diamondbacks at Padres.** The other half of the wild card math. San Diego has been reported to have clinched already; Arizona has to keep winning to keep Philadelphia from clinching.

**Two games that are not on Saturday's board.** Cubs at Red Sox and Yankees at Orioles were both moved off Saturday ahead of the storm. Boston and Chicago played a split doubleheader Friday, which Boston was reported to sweep, and their finale was relocated from Fenway Park to Tropicana Field on Sunday. The Yankees and Orioles moved Saturday's game up into a Friday doubleheader. If a source still shows those games today, the source is stale.

What could go wrong

The largest unknown is the one at the top: with Verdexed's numbers unreadable, there is no independent model opinion here to set against these prices. Below that, weather leads, because a slow-moving nor'easter with reported gusts up to 50 mph has already forced two schedule changes and can force more, and wind lands on totals before it lands on sides. Projected starters are the next hazard: three games above had at least one starter listed as to be determined, and a manager protecting a postseason rotation can pull an announced starter after three innings. Clinched clubs have every reason to rest regulars, which is invisible in a moneyline posted the night before, and eliminated clubs will hand innings to arms with too little major league sample for any model to weigh. Records, clinch scenarios, and Friday results above come from previews and wire copy rather than a verified feed, and they disagreed in places, including on which club leads the American League West.

Responsible play

**This is model output, not betting advice.** Verdexed publishes its model's probabilities and edges for informational and entertainment purposes only. Nothing here is a recommendation to place a wager, and no outcome is guaranteed, even the model's highest-confidence picks lose regularly.

**You must be of legal betting age in your jurisdiction** and located where sports wagering is legal to bet. Sports betting is not available everywhere; know and follow the laws where you are. Never bet more than you can afford to lose, and never chase losses.
